Interfraternity Council at the University of Central Florida concludes their first annual “Building Leadership” Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

(Orlando, Fl, August 20, 2010) – Yesterday, the Interfraternity Council at the University of Central Florida (IFC) concluded their first annual “Building Leadership” conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. Forty men representing leadership of 13 IFC fraternities and dozens of on-campus organizations arrived in New Orleans on August 15th. The group was divided into teams and worked actively with the United Saints Recovery Project (http://www.unitedsaints.org/) on August 16th and August 17th. The men worked together on a variety of rebuilding projects for the New Orleans community.

In addition to the service work, the fraternity members had an impressive lineup of speakers, including an Air Force Colonel, Superintendent of Saint Bernard Parish Schools, and a member of Teach for America. These speakers offered different perspectives on leadership and shared their moving stories. The conference finished on August 18th with leadership development speaker Beau Williamson providing a series of workshops to offer motivation, teach leadership strategies and breakdown communication constraints amongst the group. In Beau’s closing remarks, he reiterated, “What man is a man, who does not try to better the world?”

The majority of the trip was funded with Interfraternity Council membership dues. The remainder of the trip came from those members in attendance and an allotment from Greek Council.

“Back from an amazing trip to NOLA. So glad to have made great IFC bonds. This is looking like it’s going to be a banner year for IFC at UCF!” posted Alex Lewis, shortly after the trip. The strong bonds forged were quickly evident amongst members of Interfraternity Council as they discussed an array of topics facing the community on the way back to Orlando. The Interfraternity Council looks forward the discussion of how they can continue to “build better men and a better community”.

Two Fraternities Invited to Colonize

On behalf of the Interfraternity Council at the University of Central Florida (UCF), it is with great excitement that we announce the expansion of our council. The expansion process utilized to review organizations was extensive. After a tough decision, the organizations chosen to receive an invitation into the Interfraternity Council at UCF are Delta Lambda Phi National Social Fraternity and Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity.

Starting in Fall of 2010, the Interfraternity Council will welcome Delta Lambda Phi National Social Fraternity to start their colonization process. As per their website, Delta Lambda Phi “offer[s] gay, bisexual, and progressive men across the nation the opportunity to grow in the true spirit of brotherhood -- one that embraces diversity and respects the value of all.” The Interfraternity Council at UCF is proud to be one of the most inclusive organizations on campus and we look forward to the value Delta Lambda Phi will add. As one of the nation’s fastest growing fraternities and with vast faculty support, Delta Lambda Phi will be offered a solid foundation to grow at the University of Central Florida in the Interfraternity Council.

Starting in Spring of 2011, the Interfraternity Council will invite the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity to start their colonization process. With strong local alumni support, Delta Sigma Phi will mirror the values of the Interfraternity Council at UCF by creating a brotherhood to “Better Men. Better Lives.” We believe their brotherhood will extend the opportunity of leadership and development to men who may otherwise be apathetic to fraternity life.

It is of my greatest honor to extend the fraternal experience to these two chapters. We expect both chapters to fully embrace and advance the UCF Creed and the values of Interfraternity Council at the University of Central Florida and believe both will do so.

I would like to personally thank all those who helped with the expansion process. IFC to hopefully expand to 18 fraternities by Fall 2010 semester

On Wednesday, March 17th, 2010, Interfraternity Council delegates voted in favor of expanding the council. This vote will make it possible for 2 new IFC Greek Organizations to come on campus as early as Fall 2010.
