Recruitment Dictionary


Fraternity- A social organization made up of male undergraduates with a common purpose or intrest.

Rush- The period of time when Fraternities open Recruitment.

Pledge- A person who has been accepted for membership in a fraternal organization.

Brother- Member of a fraternal organization. Collectively, all members of a fraternity make up a brotherhood.

Bid- An invitation to join the membership of fraternity. It can be accepted, denied, or deferred.

Chapter- The local collegiate membership of a fraternity.

Greek- The collective sum of both Fraternities and Sororities. Sometimes called Greek Life.

What are the benefits of joining a fraternity?
Joining a fraternal organization is an opportunity to enrich and complete your college experience. Whether your collegiate goals are to have a high GPA, have various leadership positions, or just have a great time and expand your social network, joining a fraternity will allow your goals to become a reality.

Will pledging a fraternity hurt my GPA or take up too much time?
Every semester, Greek's consistently have higher GPA's than non-Greeks. This is due to fraternities' dedication to academics as well as study groups and other resources. Fraternities also teach time-management skills and all organizations realize the primary focus of attending UCF is to succeed academically.



Do Fraternities haze?
Fraternities absolutely do NOT haze. The Interfraternity Council, UCF, as well as Government Regulations are very strict when it comes to hazing. Hazing is ILLEGAL.

Which Fraternity is the best on campus?
There is no "best" fraternity, in fact, all fraternities offer something different and unique to their members. What's best for you may not be what's best for someone else.
